Great stuff Terri. The first thing I learned about leadership when we studied it at the Academy is Followership. You have to know how to follow before you can ever lead, is the mantra. Sivers gets it right here, I think. To immerse yourself in the role and thoughts of the follower, even to the point of thinking of yourself as one, as a crucial part of leadership. I hate how we often think this is synonomous with Greenleaf’s “servant leadership.” Followership goes to the heart of as one leads, never ask someone to do something you yourself wouldn’t do or aren’t capable of doing yourself.
